Travel

We encourage attendees to prioritise the environment in their travel choices while recognising that for some travelling by air will be unavoidable.

Lyon is well-connected to major European cities by train, including Paris, London, Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, and Milan.

Travel and accommodation bursaries

We have 10,000 euros available to support attendees with the cost of travel and accommodation. You can apply for a bursary award of 300, 400 or 500 euros dependent on how much you need to cover or contribute towards your travel and accommodation. Our budget is limited, please consider your eligibility before applying based on the criteria below.

Eligibility: As part of our commitment to inclusion, priority for bursaries will be given to people working to redesign our economies who experience inequity and are underrepresented at new economy events. This includes: people aged 18-25, people of the Global Majority, people who are unemployed or have low-waged work, disabled people and people who identify as LGBTQIA+. We cannot provide support for anyone working for a Funder, Government body, those based in/near Lyon, or people representing an organisation with an annual turnover of 750,000 euros or more.

If you meet the criteria you can apply for a bursary.

(New Economy Leadership Academy alumni and working groups participants will be sent a separate route to request support.)

Accommodation

Here’s a selection of hotels nearby L'Embarcadère (our venue on day two):

Food and drink

We will be providing vegetarian and vegan food only.

If you have any allergies or dietary requirements you can let us know in your registration form.

Access

We want everyone to be able to participate freely and comfortably in the gathering. A dedicated access lead will be available to those joining in person to support any access needs that may arise. The event is relaxed, you will be able to come and go, move and make noise as needed.

There is step free access to both venues as well as accessible toilets. There will be a dedicated quiet space with comfortable seating.

Please get in touch if you would like more information, you can let us know if you have any specific access requirements on your registration form.

Dress code (or lack thereof)

The dress code is informal, including in the evenings. Please wear what you are comfortable wearing; that might mean jeans for some people, and a suit for others. We’re happy if you are.

Environmental impact

We have carefully considered the benefits of hosting an in-person gathering - particularly as we know travel is a main driver of P4NE’s operational emission footprint. In line with our policy, we are confident that these events will make a significant contribution to the development of the new economy field and to P4NE’s mission. Wherever possible we encourage you to prioritise the environment in your travel choices.

Guiding principles

In the short time we are gathering we hope to create an environment that is respectful, generous, honest, safe, open and curious. We come from different places, with different backgrounds, languages, expertise and cultures. These guiding principles are designed to create awareness and a reference point for how we can show up in ways that will support both our individual experience and the collective experience of this space.

We ask that all participants agree to these guiding principles:

  • Be curious and open to the contribution of others and to the process. Assume good intent and ask questions to seek understanding.

  • Hold your ideas and assumptions lightly. We don’t know everything and we are not right all of the time - together we know a lot and can build a fuller picture.

  • Accept and expect non-closure. Be willing to leave here joyfully unresolved with more questions than answers.

  • Value our time and other people’s. Make the most of our time together and keep conversations focused and purposeful.

  • Honour confidentiality. Take the learnings with you, leaving names/specifics out.

  • Speak from your own experience and give credit when sharing other’s ideas. Use ‘I’ statements rather than ‘we’.

  • Take care of yourself and engage in a way that works for you without getting in the way of others. We all learn and think differently - we engage with the bits that work for us while giving space for others to do the same.

  • Take space and make space. Challenge yourself to take more space if you do not usually, and be mindful to leave room for other voices if you often talk.

  • Avoid jargon, acronyms, and industry language. Use language that is accessible for people with varying inside knowledge and first languages that might be different from yours.

These guiding principles are a combination of thinking and practice drawn from the work of adrienne marie brown, Weaving Earth, Lead to Life’s People’s Alchemy Labs, Fierce Allies, Youth Passageways, and Nesta’s People Powered Results team.

Anti-harassment policy

Should anyone experience inappropriate behaviour or harassment, our process is as follows:

  • Staff are the most visible first-line of support for those who experience inappropriate behaviour and participants can approach P4NE staff members should they wish to report experiencing or witnessing any such behaviours. Staff will note down the details of what has happened, make sure the Event Co-Lead (Cassie) is informed, and stay with the person who needs support if needed.

  • If a participant engages in harassing or inappropriate behaviour, the Event Co-Leads or Director may take any action they deem appropriate to the situation, including warning the offender, or expelling them from the event with immediate effect. Event staff may, if necessary, contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing inappropriate behaviour.

  • Incidents of inappropriate behaviour during the event will be noted and shared between event staff. This is so we can spot and challenge patterns of unwanted behaviour or repeat offenders.

  • After the event, any reported incidents of inappropriate behaviour will be reported to and reviewed by the P4NE Board. Details of incidents that were resolved satisfactorily, did not recur, or were minor will be discarded. Details of repeat or serious transgressions may be retained by P4NE for as long as the Board deems them relevant.

Online attendance

We will be recording the sessions in the auditorium and they will be published after the event for those who can’t attend in person. There is no need to register to view the online recordings.
